321ACTION: Reflect on the fight for racial justice on MLK Day

Your civic action to-do list for January 10, 2022

Violence Against Women Act, Honoring MLK, Ending Pregnancy Discrimination

Register early for the Women to Watch Leadership Weekend happening March 20 & 21, 2022. See below and follow us on social media for more details.

The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA) of 2022 includes protections for underserved populations, including Black, LGBTQ+, Native, and disabled survivors, which are at risk of being rolled back if it does not pass now!

On Wednesday, January 19th, join special guest Angelina Jolie, JWI, and the National Task Force to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NTF) for an hour of advocacy supporting the Violence Against Women Act of 2022. The event link will be included in next week’s 3-2-1.

Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day is an opportunity to reflect both on our progress in ensuring equality for all, and our continued fight for racial justice and equity.

On Thursday, January 13th, attend the celebration of MLK’s life and legacy hosted by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division and notable speakers – NAACP President Sherrilyn Ifill, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, and U.S. Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta.

Pregnant people are too often forced to choose between a paycheck and their health due to workplace discrimination and denial of accommodations.

The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) would create a clear national framework requiring employers to provide reasonable accommodations which would enable them to continue working without risking the health of their pregnancy.

Write your senators and encourage them to pass the bipartisan PWFA now.
