JWI demands gun control NOW after mass shooting massacres shake the country

It was a Tuesday in America.

It could have been any day of the week. It could have been anywhere. It could have been anyone.
Yet again, our country is reeling from another horrific, senseless mass shooting.

This time, it was 19 children and 2 teachers at an elementary school. Two sentences that should never be in the same paragraph.

We are heartbroken, again.

This was the 212th mass shooting in the 145 days of 2022. Many of the victims of the hate-fueled shooting in Buffalo had not even been buried.

We demand action. We refuse thoughts and prayers as the only answer from our government. We refuse to watch innocent children and educators bear the brunt of our lawmakers' complacency. We refuse to watch our country become numb to the scourge of gun violence. Most of all, we refuse to give up hope.

For more than three decades, JWI has been advocating for gun violence prevention and demanding legislators pass common sense gun laws that will save lives. We co-chair Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence and are inaugural members of Everytown for Gun Safety’s Interfaith Advisory Council. As an organization, we have a mission to build a world in which all women and girls live safely – and thrive. This means doing whatever we can to end gun violence in all its forms. Right now, we will only continue to fight harder to keep our communities and children safe.

In Judaism, we are taught that to save a life is to save a whole world. We will stop at nothing to pursue a future that is free from gun violence to protect the worlds of women, children, parents, educators, and all Americans.

We stand with those in Ulvade mourning the lives tragically cut short and pray for healing and strength. May the memories of the victims at Robb Elementary School be a revolution towards a brighter future.
