Celebrating the Advocacy Wins of 2021!

Register early for the Women to Watch Leadership Weekend happening March 20 & 21, 2022. See below and follow us on social media for more details.

In our last 3-2-1 email of 2021, we want to take the time to celebrate our wins and thank you for your tireless advocacy which helped make these accomplishments possible.

At JWI’s Virtual Impact Summit, U.S. Representative Kathy Manning and MD State Senator Cheryl Kagan discussed some of the legislative triumphs of the past year, the work to come in 2022, and the important role that JWI’s members can play in driving change.

In 2021 - JWI brought the faith community’s perspective to the Hill and the White House.

We held two Advocacy Days where over 160 of you met with Republicans and Democrats to make your voices heard and to share your stories about the real impact of the Equality Act and Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. Additionally, JWI’s letter of support for the Family Violence Prevention and Improvement Services Act (FVPSA) was submitted into the Congressional record that affirmed that Jewish values mandate treating all people with dignity and respect and providing all survivors with the services they require.

In a monumental development earlier this year, the Biden Administration mandated the creation of a National Action Plan on Gender-Based Violence to create a long-term blueprint for addressing and preventing the underlying causes of gender-based violence and strengthening the systems that prevent and respond to it. JWI, in partnership with Ujima, provided concrete recommendations, from faith leaders to the White House Gender Policy Council, for how the federal government can best assist faith communities in their support of survivors.

In 2021, among other wins, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the following bills:

In 2022, we will revitalize our efforts, and ask you to join in the movement to push these bills over the finish line in the Senate. We will also keep fighting for paid leave, gun violence prevention, reproductive choice, and economic security and safety for survivors. Your voice matters and we can't do it without you!

JWI will be expanding our Policy and Advocacy Team to extend the reach of our advocacy initiatives to end violence, protect freedom, and ensure equality for all. We appreciate any support you are able to provide to make this happen.
