Voting Rights, Abortion Rights, Belonging in the Jewish Community

Register early for the Women to Watch Leadership Weekend happening March 20 & 21, 2022. See below and follow us on social media for more details.

Voting is inextricably linked to legislative outcomes that impact people’s fundamental rights, such as abortion, affordable housing and health care, and freedom from violence.

Write your senators to tell them to end the filibusters and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA) and the Freedom to Vote Act (FVA).

On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled to let the Texas Heartbeat Act continue in effect, while its consitutionality is litigated by providers. Their decision also sets a dangerous precedent that states can effectively void our constitutional rights to abortions by making individuals, not state officials, the agents of enforcement.  The reality is that women in Texas, and nationwide where similar laws are enacted, will die as a result.

  • Read JWI’s full statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling.

  • Read Justice Sotomayor’s powerful dissent that explains the far-reaching impacts of this ruling.

  • Write your House Representative and tell them to pass the Abortion is Health Care Everywhere Bill of 2021.

According to Be’chol Lashon, 20% of Jews in America identify as African American, Latino, Asian, Sephardic, Mizrahi, and/or mixed race. When building a strong Jewish community, it is crucial that people of all backgrounds can experience a sense of belonging.

Join the Union for Reform Judaism on December 13th at 8:00 p.m. ET for “Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) 101.”
