Here are three ways to get started:
1. Find out who's selling guns on your street.
Guns are "everywhere" – but did you know that the majority of licensed gun dealers are selling in residential neighborhoods with no requirement to inform their neighbors? Read Everytown for Gun Safety’s new report, "Inside the Gun Shop: Firearms Dealers and their Impact," and look up the gun seller in your neighborhood. Then write or call your congressperson and ask what they’re going to do about limiting guns in residential areas across the country.
2. Confront hate crimes in the U.S.
Hate crimes are on the rise - and anyone can be a target. This brand of violence traumatizes individuals and communities, and erodes our trust in public safety. The Hate Crimes Commission Act of 2023 (H.R. 4172) will create a bi-partisan commission to investigate hate crimes and recommend policy and legal solutions to address this scourge. Call your representative and tell them to support this Act.
3. Protect health care providers who risk their own safety.
Even in states with the widest access to abortions - and especially in the many states where access is extremely limited - doctors and health care workers provide abortion services at great personal risk. Call your senator and tell them to support the Let Doctors Provide Reproductive Health Care Act (S.1297), which will support these valiant health care providers.
