With the final election results still trickling in and a few recounts outstanding, Republicans have enough seats to control the House, giving Republicans a governing trifecta for the next two years. The official leadership structure in both chambers is starting to take shape, with Senator John Thune (R-SD) being elected by his peers as the incoming Senate Majority Leader and with Senator Chuck Schumer expected to remain at the helm of Senate Democrats as Minority Leader. Speaker Mike Johnson is widely expected to maintain his speakership, although that vote will not take place until the new Congress, and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will likely remain as the Democratic leader in the House.
