The Administration just turned its back on survivors of sexual assault.
Today the Trump Administration undermined Title IX of the Civil Rights Act, gutting critical protections for survivors of sexual assault and harassment in schools and universities across the country.
In the middle of a global pandemic, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos overruled more than 100,000 survivors and allies who submitted comments opposing this rule. At a time when each of us is feeling vulnerable and alone, the administration chose to make it clear just how little it cares about survivors of sexual assault.
From our sexual assault prevention work on more than 65 college campuses, JWI knows all too well about the prevalence and underreporting of intimate partner violence and harassment. This final rule, that puts the needs of the accused over those of survivors, will make schools less safe and do great harm to those seeking justice.
As we continue to collaborate with other organizations on next steps, we will keep you updated on ways you can join us in advocating in support of survivors.
