Prioritize gun violence, protect women's healthcare, and preserve asylum-seekers' protections: Civic action to-do list for 11-12-18
3. Prioritize Gun Violence
Congress MUST address gun violence in this country. Since the start of the current Congressional session there have been 654 mass shootings and 28,263 deaths from gun violence in the United States. With the start of the 116th Congress in January, please reach out to your newly-elected officials and tell them to prioritize gun violence prevention. The devastation in cities like Parkland, Sutherland Springs, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, and Thousand Oaks must stop.
2. Rebuke the Attack on Women’s Healthcare
An employer’s religious or moral beliefs should not impede a woman’s ability to access contraception. Yet this is exactly what the Administration is proposing to do! Make your voice heard to ensure that no employer will be permitted to deny coverage to employees based on its beliefs. Join JWI for a webinar on December 11th at noon EST to learn more about the regulations and how best to voice your concerns. Each of us must respond to this attack on women’s healthcare.
1. Preserve Life-Saving Protections
All people fleeing severe violence should be able to seek asylum in our country. Last week the Administration announced new plans to limit this life-saving protection. Providing a safe haven to people fleeing violence has been a core value of our country. Do not let these longstanding protections for survivors of violence to be undermined by the requirement of entering through a designated port of entry. Call your Senators and Representative and tell them to stand up for asylum seekers and to provide oversight of the Administration.
