Civil rights at stake, contraceptives, and protecting survivors: Civic action to-do list for 11-12-18
3. Civil Rights at Stake!
All students have a right to learn in schools free of sexual harassment, assault, and discrimination. But Betsy DeVos and the Department of Education is proposing to weaken Title IX’s protections by narrowing the definition of sexual harassment, limiting when schools must respond to allegations, and making it more difficult for students to come forward when they experience sexual harassment or assault. This roll-back to the civil rights of all students will inhibit their ability to be safe in an environment that protects perpetrators from consequences! Learn more and learn how to submit a comment on this proposed roll-back on the civil rights of all students!
2. My Body, My Contraception!
An employer’s religious or moral beliefs should not impede a woman’s ability to access contraception! Yet this is exactly what the Administration is planning to do through a new regulation proposed by the Department of Health and Human Services! Make your voice heard to ensure that no employer will be permitted to deny coverage to employees based on its beliefs. Learn more and learn how to submit a comment on this denial of women’s rights!
Join JWI for a webinar on December 11th at 12 PM EST to learn more about these two regulations and how to amplify your anger about them.
1. Survivors Know What they Need!
The needs of survivors and (providers) must be seriously addressed in any authorization of the Violence Against Women Act! Yet the Senate is planning to shut down their voices by eliminating any possibility of improving the current VAWA. Call your Senators and let them know that a straight reauthorization is not in the best interests of survivors! And call your Representative today and tell them to cosponsor H.R. 6545 - The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2018 !
