JWI congratulates President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory!

JWI celebrates the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as well as all champions of gender justice in the 117th Congress. We mark this outcome as a triumph of our democratic process, as an opportunity to bring about progress and equity for women and marginalized people, and as a sign that Americans are committed to building a more just society.

Representation matters – especially for the kind of future we hope to create together. We are thrilled that Kamala Harris has made history as the first woman and the first Black and Indian American to be elected to the vice presidency. We are also eager to see the leadership of a record number of women in Congress. Having advocates for women's health, rights, and safety in the White House and on Capitol Hill redefines what is possible for all women and girls.

And, we are excited to once again partner with President-Elect Joe Biden, with whom JWI worked on the Violence Against Women Act, subsequent reauthorizations of VAWA, and efforts to stop campus sexual assault through the Obama-Biden administration's It's On Us initiative. We look forward to having a strong ally in the White House in the work to end gender-based violence and support survivors.

Even with the election of a new administration and Congress, gender inequity, reproductive oppression, violence against women and girls, and systemic racism will endure. It is essential that our fight for justice for all also endures. Election Day is not the finish line for civic engagement, it's just the beginning.

We are inspired by you and the tens of millions like you who, even amidst a pandemic, made certain your voices were heard and your votes counted. We now have the chance to make a difference and address the issues that inspired your vote. We can mitigate our public health and economic crises, combat gender and racial injustice, and prevent domestic violence and sexual assault. We can achieve gun safety, immigration, and policing reforms. We clearly have work to do, and we need you advocating, organizing, and working alongside us.

Join us as we move forward. JWI is launching VOTE – AND to equip you to be part of the change for our future. Learn more here and contribute to JWI today to strengthen our work on behalf of all women and girls.
