3. Protests against systemic racism and police brutality have spanned all 50 states and more that 2,000 cities. Now, we need to address our national failings on racial justice and hold law enforcement liable through strong federal policy.

In a nutshell: The Senate Republicans’ new police reform bill (the JUSTICE Act) fails to secure long-overdue accountability or change use of force policies among law enforcement. Black Americans deserve better.

Take action: Email your senators and representative and tell them to support the  Justice in Policing Act!

2. 70 million people are fleeing violence around the world, and yet the Trump administration just proposed a new rule that would turn away asylum-seekers escaping gender-based violence.

In a nutshell: The Administration’s newest regulation to eliminate gender-based asylum continues Trump’s legacy of xenophobia and misogyny at home and abroad. Denying asylum to women fleeing rape and domestic abuse and LGBTQ individuals facing hate-based violence is anathema to our country’s values.

Take action: Educate yourself on our global refugee crisis so that we can fight back against this inhumane policy together. Read this article and watch this video to get started.

1. In the midst of a global pandemic, anti-choice lawmakers in Tennessee and Iowa unconscionably opted to further endanger women’s health and attack reproductive rights.

In a nutshell: Tennessee’s oppressive 6-week abortion ban and Iowa’s onerous waiting period mandate are among the constellation of anti-abortion policies designed to limit reproductive freedom. Any day now, the Supreme Court will release a ruling on abortion rights that could greenlight even more of these reprehensible bills.

Take action: We need Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and safeguard abortion rights under federal law!
