Equality Act, FAMILY Act, Global HER Act, and VAWA: Your civic action to-do list for 3-22-21

3. The Equality Act (S. 393) is on its way to the Senate floor for a vote and we need you to contact your senators ASAP!

In a nutshell: No one should have to live in fear of bias, discrimination, or harassment. The Equality Act will provide consistent and explicit non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people in employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federally funded programs, and jury service.

Take action: Email your senator to support S. 393 and ensure no person is fired from their job, refused service at a business, or denied housing because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

2. Can't make it to JWI's Virtual Advocacy Day tomorrow, but still want to make your voice heard on current Senate bills impacting women and girls? Use our quick, easy platform to take action and email your senators on our priority legislation!

In a nutshell: We need senators to support the FAMILY Act (S. 248), which creates a national paid family and medical leave program, and the Global HER Act (S.142), which permanently repeals the global gag rule and advances comprehensive reproductive health care access for millions.

Take action: Urge your senators to support paid family and medical leave and global reproductive freedom.

1. The House of Representatives passed the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2021 (H.R. 1620) last week! Now the Senate must follow suit and introduce (and then pass!) a companion bill.

In a nutshell: H.R. 1620 enhances and expands services for survivors of gender-based violence, invests in culturally specific organizations and prevention programming, and improves access to justice for survivors.

Take action: Now is not the time to maintain the status quo. Tell your senators that survivors need the critical funding and protections that H.R. 1620 sets forth.
