3 votes this week: Your civic action to-do list for 3-15-21

Next Tuesday (3/23), join other grasstops activists at JWI's Virtual Advocacy Day to influence how your senators vote on important issues that impact women and girls.

3. The House of Representatives is going to vote on the bipartisan Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2021 (VAWA) this week!

In a nutshell: VAWA responds to the very real, identified needs of survivors and communities across the country by preventing future violence, enhancing and expanding services for survivors, investing in culturally-specific organizations, and improving access to justice for survivors.

Take action: Email your representative using our easy two-click automated system, and tell them to vote "aye" when VAWA comes to the floor.

2. For decades JWI has been pushing to add the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the Constitution, to finally guarantee that men and women are treated equally under the law.

In a nutshell: Though 38 states have now ratified the ERA, Congress must extend the deadline for it to take effect. Adding the ERA language to the Constitution will further protect the rights of all women and girls by providing clearer judicial standing in cases of sex discrimination.

Take action:  Call your representative and tell them to extend the deadline for ratification!

1. Guaranteeing “Dreamers” the safety and security to remain in the country is long overdue.

In a nutshell: Within the next few days the House will vote on legislation to provide a pathway to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients who were brought to this country by their parents through no fault of their own.

Take action: Dreamers deserve to continue to build their lives in the only country they have ever called home. Tell your representative to support Dreamers today.
