All eyes are on the Senate & #COVIDRelief: Your civic action to-do list for 3-1-21
On March 23rd you can join other grasstop activists and make a difference in the lives of women and girls across the country. Sign up for JWI's Virtual Advocacy Day to influence how your senators vote on important issues.
3. The Senate is poised to aid the millions of people out of work and struggling to cover basic expenses almost a year into the COVID-19 public health and economic crisis.
In a nutshell: Over the weekend the House of Representatives passed the American Rescue Plan, the #COVIDRelief bill that included unemployment, housing, and food benefits. Now it is up to the Senate to do the same.
Take action: Email your senators and tell them they must pass a bill that meet the needs of our country.
2. Women STILL earn, on average, only 82 cents for every dollar a man earns, and for Black and brown women the gap is even larger.
In a nutshell: Congress must pass the Paycheck Fairness act to ensure the pay gap is closed once and for all.
Take action: Email your members of Congress to ask them to co-sponsor the bill, or submit a letter to the editor of your local paper using sample text provided by the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
1. Women’s History Month starts today!
In a nutshell: This year, JWI is marking Women’s History Month by partnering with Sephardic Heritage International (SHIN) D.C. on an event that recognizes female voices in the struggle for social justice and equality.
Take action: Join us on March 11th at 2:00 p.m. ET for the Female Voices of Freedom event. We look forward to seeing you there!
