321ACTION: Join JWI for Advocacy Day!

Your civic action to-do list for March 28, 2022

Ready to make a difference? Here are three ways to get started:

JWI’s Advocacy Day

Getting involved in advocating for policy can be a little intimidating! JWI’s Advocacy Day is the perfect way to get involved whether you’ve never advocated before or you’re a seasoned pro. We will provide advocacy training and brief you on the issues in advance.

During Advocacy Day, you will have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes meeting face to face - virtually - with U.S. Senate offices to speak out on key issues affecting women and girls. Current issues include preventing gender-based violence in humanitarian crises, protecting the economic security of pregnant workers, and disarming dating violence abusers and stalkers.

Advocacy Day will take place Wednesday, April 6th between 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. ET (you will join us for a 30-minute time slot based on the senate office you will speak with).

We will be meeting with U.S. Senate offices from California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas – we encourage you to participate if you have any connection to one of these states or can speak to the issue.

Advocate for the Confirmation of Judge Brown Jackson to SCOTUS

Last week, over 4 days of hearings, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was interrogated by senators about her religion, her thoughts on racism, her rulings in past cases, and more. Throughout the hours of questioning, we saw a judge committed to the rule of law.

Judge Brown Jackson’s qualifications were clearly exemplified during the hearings. Email your senators now and encourage them to act expeditiously to confirm her to the Supreme Court.

Support Girls Globally in Obtaining Education

Secondary education is critical to empowering girls and enabling them to lead healthy, productive lives. Last week, after 7 long months, girls’ high schools in Afghanistan were briefly reopened - only to be instantly closed by the Taliban, with no guarantee on when girls will be able to attend again. During the ongoing conflict, hundreds of schools in Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed.

The Keeping Girls Safe Act (HR4134/SB2276) would enable the U.S. Agency for International Development to address the barriers globally that prevent girls from accessing secondary education.

Email your members of Congress and ask them to take action on this legislation now.

The panel will feature a discussion on what people in houses of worship fear: mass shootings, increased police presence, threats from within and without, and so much more.

JWI Mother's Day Flower Project

This Mother's Day - we invite you to send more love. Choose a card to send to your mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, daughter, in-law, or friend.
