321ACTION: Attend JWI's "VAWA Victory Lap" and learn more about how to get involved in advocacy!
Your civic action to-do list for April 11, 2022
Ready to make a difference? Here are three ways to get started:
Take Advocacy Actions with JWI!
This Thursday, April 14th join JWI’s Young Women’s Impact Network in Washington, D.C. for the "VAWA Victory Lap," a celebration of the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Join us and our special guests to talk about JWI’s work in advocating for VAWA, the impact of advocacy, how it ties to our Jewish values, and how you can get involved!
If you couldn’t join JWI for Advocacy Day last week, it’s not too late to email your senators and ask them to support the key legislation discussed: Protecting Victims of Domestic Violence and Stalking Act, Keeping Women and Girls Safe from the Start Act, and Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA).
Take Action on Pay Equity
Women, on average, still only make about 80% of what men earn per year, and the gap is even larger for women of color. The Paycheck Fairness Act (PFA) would give women recourse for wage discrimination and increase salary transparency.
Email your senators and ask them to pass this act now to increase pay equity.
Support Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence
You may have heard of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) in the context of football or boxing, however preliminary data shows that survivors of intimate partner violence are even more likely to suffer from brain injuries, as a result of abuse.
The Protecting Survivors from Traumatic Brain Injury Act of 2022 (H.R.7301/S.3963) will require that Health and Human Services collect data on the prevalence of brain injuries due to domestic and sexual violence. This will enhance understanding of the problem in order to create an effective response to this public health issue.
Email your members of Congress and ask them to pass this legislation.
