321ACTION: Right to Contraception, Immigrant Safety, and Progress in Gun Violence Prevention

Ready to make a difference?

Here are three ways to get started:

1. Support the Right to Contraception Act

Family planning is a basic human right and access to contraception is central to a person’s ability to build economic and personal security. Reproductive coercion by an abuser withholding contraception from a victim of intimate partner violence or through sexual assault are denials of these rights. Additionally, the right to make personal decisions about reproduction have been systemically denied to vulnerable and marginalized people throughout the history of the United States. Support the Right to Contraception Act by calling your representatives and senators and ask them to sign on to H.R. 4121 and S. 1999.

2. Safeguard immigrant survivors of abuse

Immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other gender-based violence should not have to fear deportation. But low caps on the number of visas that can be issued to these survivors, fear of detention and deportation, and lack of work authorization permits limit pathways to safety. Call your representative to support the Working for Immigrant Safety and Empowerment (WISE) Act, H.R. 5145, read this fact sheet  and register for a webinar on September 21 from 2-3 ET to learn more about this critical legislation.

3. We've made some progress on gun violence prevention

While gun violence prevention work is on going and often discouraging, take a moment to recognize the power of collective action to stem the presence of firearms. So far, in 2023 over 80 gun safety policies have been passed, each of which has the potential to save lives. Read the report and as you think about the new year beginning soon, resolve to take more actions to create a safer world.
