321ACTION: Take Action Now

Ready to make a difference?

Here are three ways to get started:

1. Support the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act

Ironically and tragically despite the country’s focus on denying reproductive justice, the United States has the highest maternal mortality rate of any high-income country and Black moms are the most at risk. The Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act includes 13 separate bills to provide funding to promote maternal well-being such as funding to promote vaccinations, housing, transportation, and nutrition, and programs to improve maternal health care for veterans. H.R.3305 has 190 cosponsors and S.1606 has 30 cosponsors - contact your representative to thank them or ask them to sign on. Moms' and babies' lives are at risk.

2. Apply pressure to ensure funding for survivors via the Crime Victims Fund

The Crime Victims Fund is the primary source of funding for victims and victim services around the country. The Fund is financed by fines and penalties paid by persons convicted in federal cases, not from tax dollars. Congress will be determining how much money to allocate for the Fund – and we need to apply pressure for them to allocate the full $1.9 billion permitted by law. Your members of Congress are back home now – call your local congressional offices and let them know how important this funding is to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault!

3. Address concealed carry permits

More and more jurisdictions are issuing concealed carry permits – allowing an individual to carry a gun in a concealed manner. While the rationale behind the concealed carry laws are to enhance self-defense, a new study shows an increase in homicides in jurisdictions issuing concealed carry permits. Read this article and take a few minutes to find out whether concealed carry permits are issued in your county.
