321ACTION: Expand SNAP, Vote to Protect Abortion Rights, and Stand Against DV & Gun Violence
Ready to make a difference?
Here are three ways to get started:
1. Strengthen and Expand SNAP
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is our nation’s bedrock nutrition and anti-hunger program, helping millions of women, LGBTQI+ people, and their families around the country to put food on the table and stricter eligibility requirements will make it harder for people to access. Click here to learn more and then urge your members of Congress to use the Farm Bill to strengthen and expand SNAP.
2. Ohio Voters: Vote NO tomorrow to Protect Abortion Rights
Tomorrow’s special election in Ohio seeks to raise the threshold of votes needed to pass an initiative on a ballot. While this may seem esoteric it will greatly impact whether a constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights will pass in the November election. It’s a sneaky way of attacking abortion rights and you can learn more here.
If you are an Ohio voter, vote NO so that a simple majority as the law currently states is enough to protect these rights!
If you are not an Ohio voter but have loved ones there, please reach out to them to ensure they are informed on this!
3. Calling Faith Leaders: Stand Against DV and Gun Violence in US v Rahimi Amicus Brief
JWI is preparing an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in the case of US v Rahimi where the question is whether an abuser who is the subject of a qualifying restraining order can be prohibited from access to a firearm. We are seeking the experiences of faith leaders of any religion who have provided pastoral counseling or other support to survivors where the abuser has access to a gun. Please share this link now with faith leaders in your community. Time is of the essence – interviews with faith leaders are taking place this week.
