Here are three ways to get started:
1. FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine - a brief reprieve!
The Supreme Court's ruling in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine was a welcome reprieve from relentless attacks on reproductive freedom since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The plaintiffs in this case asked the court to overturn the FDA's regulatory actions making the drug mifepristone, which is used in abortions and for managing miscarriages as well as for other healthcare purposes, more accessible. The Court did not rule on the merits of the case but instead found the plaintiffs did not have standing to bring the case. Read more here. Any day, the Court will rule on a second abortion-related case, questioning whether state laws prohibiting abortion override the federal law requiring physicians to provide stabilizing care to people experiencing medical emergencies.
2. Tell your Senators to cosponsor the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act!
Federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) victim service grants were cut by $630 million (40%) in Fiscal Year 2024 due to lack of funds in VOCA’s Crime Victims Fund. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) have introduced the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act in the Senate to prevent further cuts. Click here to email your Senators and urge them to cosponsor this vital bill (in past 321s, we asked you to email your Representatives – this is different!).
3. Urge your members of Congress to ban bump stocks!
The Supreme Court’s ruling in S. v. Cargill overturned a federal regulation that outlawed a bump stocks, a gun accessory that allows semiautomatic firearms to fire at the rate of some machineguns and without the shooter pulling the trigger for each shot. Congress must respond by outlawing bump stocks through the legislative process. Click here to email your members of Congress and urge them to cosponsor the Banning Unlawful Machinegun Parts Act of 2023/Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act of 2023.
+ In case you missed it...
