Increasing Survivor Economic Security During COVID

Tuesday, May 25th, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. ET/12:30 to 2:00 p.m. PT

Studies and research tells us that COVID-19 had its greatest impact on already vulnerable individuals and communities.  Sadly, victims and survivors of domestic violence were no exception.  Between lock down orders, essential worker designation and financial challenges, survivors of domestic violence faced impossible challenges and choices when it comes to staying safe and alive.

However, there have since been several initiatives, federal and as well private and some local efforts, to specifically address the immediate harm the pandemic has caused, and well as address the needs of moderate and low-income workers.  This session will explore specific tools and resources currently available to survivors, that can help them move from short-term safety to long-term financial security.  We will discuss possible relief yet to come and how advocates can get involved to push these initiatives forward.

Presenter: Kim Pentico is the Director of Economic Justice at the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV). Kim has been working with and on behalf of survivors of sexual and domestic violence since 1990. She first spent over seven years working for a local domestic violence program in Kansas and another seven years at the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence. She has also worked for the STOP Technical Assistance Project in Washington, DC. Kim works to ensure and enhance survivor access to economic justice and long-term safety.
