For kids whose lives have been upended by violence, JWI transforms basic spaces in domestic violence shelters nationwide into children’s libraries - comforting havens with colorful furniture and rugs, computers and toys, and hundreds of new books that represent the diversity of the women and children served there.
JWI libraries give children a safe place to relax, escape into a book, and keep up with academics when they're most at risk of falling behind in school. In response to the COVID crisis, we adapted many of these libraries into study and resource centers, so students learning remotely or in-person could fully access their education. And we remain committed to continually restocking the shelves and resources as each child leaves the shelter, ready to start a new life.
