Voter FAQ, COVID relief & Global Gag: Your civic action to-do list for 8-24-20

Here's what JWI is doing:

  • JWI debuted our new live weekly news roundup, Women on the Week, where Meredith Jacobs will be joined with editors from the Forward and JTA along with a special guest news writer and/or maker to discuss what’s happening in the world.

  • JWI is holding a four-part Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion training series – sign up for the 3rd session on September 2!

  • Buy gifts that support JWI and inspire civic engagement!

...and here's what you can do this week to keep the momentum going:

3. We must all start planning NOW to create a voting plan for November.

In a nutshell: With the pandemic reducing the number of polling locations, attacks on the U.S. postal service, and voter suppression tactics alive and well in our politics - we must re-think how and where we cast our ballots.

Take action: Go to JWI’s Vote FAQ for answers to all your voting questions. If you have a question that isn’t answered, email me and I will find out the answer!

2. Americans desperately need help to get through this pandemic, but the federal government is falling short.

In a nutshell: Congress must come together and pass a coronavirus relief bill that increases funding for domestic violence and sexual assault programs, provides robust unemployment benefits to millions, and protects low-income renters from eviction and homelessness.

Take action: Call your senators and tell them to support these priorities in a phase 4 relief bill!

1. All women and girls deserve access to basic health care, including sexual and reproductive health care, but the reinstatement and expansion of the Global Gag Rule has caused serious harm and disruption to health services around the world.

In a nutshell: The State Department released a long overdue report on the Global Gag Rule that confirms it disrupts access to life-saving health services for people and communities most at risk.

Take action: We will be joining our partners to work on strategies to oppose this dangerous change. We will keep you updated on how you can join us in our next steps!
