JWI Statement on Trump Rally Assassination Attempt
From Jewish Women International on July 15, 2024:
We at JWI are deeply troubled by the recent attack on former President Donald Trump and by the death and grievous injury of event attendees. While the motive of the shooter has yet to be determined, such violence is never acceptable, whatever the motive. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of Corey Comperatore and pray for healing for those who were injured. We also extend our gratitude to the first responders and Secret Service agents who reacted immediately to protect event attendees.
As is far too often the case, the attack on former President Trump was committed using an assault weapon. The proliferation of assault weapons poses a significant threat to public safety. Meredith Jacobs, JWI’s CEO, states, “These weapons, designed for military use, have no place in civilian hands. We call upon lawmakers to take immediate and decisive action to ban assault weapons. It is a crucial step in reducing the potential for mass violence and ensuring the safety of all Americans.”
JWI remains committed to advocating for policies that promote peace, justice, and the well-being of all citizens. We urge our fellow Americans to join us in condemning violence and supporting common-sense gun reforms that will help prevent future tragedies.
