LET'S GET TO WORK: Civic action to-do list for 4-3-17
Call on the President to walk the First Lady's talk
In a speech last week, First Lady Melania Trump said, “Wherever women are diminished, the entire world is diminished with them. However, wherever women are empowered, towns and villages, schools and economies, are empowered...” Let's call on the Trump Administration to back up her statement - by fully funding and staffing the State Department, and appointing an ambassador-at-large for global women's issues. Reach out by phone or email.
Support Title IX in Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (#SAAM). Follow JWI on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for information and action items throughout the month. You can start by signing the Know Your IX and End Rape on Campus (EROC) petition telling Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to enforce Title IX and leave current guidance intact. And don’t underestimate the power of the phone call! Follow EROC's calling directions, or if you can't get through at 202-401-3000, call the Department of Education at 1-800-USA-LEARN and press 3.
Talk to your reps, face-to-Facebook
You don't have to make it down to Capitol Hill to make a difference - just plug in through social media! Facebook's new “Town Hall” tools are still being beta tested, but they allow you to find and contact your local, state, and federal representatives. Just click "contact" to make your voice heard!
And for you...
JWI and our Young Women’s Leadership Network are talking to members of Congress in person today. As one of our supporters, we want you to celebrate the power of our future leaders as they hit Capitol Hill. Follow along on social media at #JWIaction to see how Young Women’s Advocacy Day is going, and stay tuned for a big email tonight with behind the scenes info from the day!
