COVID relief, SCOTUS, and voting: Your civic action to-do list for 10-19-20

Here's what JWI is doing:

  • Every week, JWI CEO Meredith Jacobs convenes editors from The Forward and JTA along with special guests in our Women on the Week series to discuss the news.

  • JWI’s Interfaith Coalition is hosting a 4-part series for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Register for the third session this Wednesday.

  • JWI designed voting swag so that you can carry out your civic duty in style – proceeds will support our work.

  • On Thursday, 10/29, JWI is hosting an exclusive discussion with the director of the new film Surge - a feature documentary about the record number of first-time female candidates in the 2018 midterm elections. Register here!

  • JWI is holding our Women to Watch Impact Summit on Friday, 12/4. Register so you can join us in celebrating Jewish women’s impact on the world and hear from remarkable women such as Representatives Schakowsky and Frankel!

...and here's what you can do this week to keep the momentum going:

3. Time is almost up for a COVID relief bill before Election Day. The American people cannot afford to wait months more for assistance.

In a nutshell: We need Congress to make a deal by Tuesday in order for a bill to pass Congress and for President Trump to sign it by November 3.

Take action: Call your senators and tell them the American people need help NOW.

2. Amy Coney Barrett – Trump’s nominee for our nation’s highest court – has a long record of defending sexual abusers.

In a nutshell: Senate Republicans are dangerously rushing through the confirmation process for Amy Coney Barrett to distract from her outrageous record and deprive the Senate of the requisite time to vet her.

Take action: This may be the last week before the Senate votes on Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation – so it’s now or never to urge your senators to oppose her nomination. JWI is cosponsoring an interfaith call-in with NCJW and other partners. Text SCOTUS to 747464 or use 888-678-9477 to reach your senators ASAP and use these resources every day this week!

1. Over 20 million Americans have already voted in this election. Make your plan to vote today – JWI can help you navigate questions on naked ballots, secrecy sleeves, notarizations, and more!

In a nutshell: With nearly half of American voters planning to vote by mail or absentee this year, JWI is committed to giving you the information you need to make it as easy as possible for you to cast your vote.

Take action: Check out jwi.org/vote for FAQ on how to vote or mail in your ballot.
