Build Back Better, Reproductive Freedom, and Voting Rights: Your civic action to-do list for 9-13-21
TOMORROW, JWI is hosting a Virtual Advocacy Day! If you live in CA, FL, GA, IL, MA, MD, or NY sign up here to advocate for legislation that protects women and girls from gender-based violence, promotes LGBTQ equality, and works to end hunger in the United States.
3. Historic investments in child care, paid family leave, and health care are necessary to create a society in which women and girls have equal opportunity.
In a nutshell: Renewed negotiations begin this week to determine what should be included in the “Build Back Better” reconciliation package.
Take action: Email your representative and senators to tell them to push for the inclusion of the child care tax credit, universal pre-k for 3- and 4-year olds, paid family leave, and investments in maternal health.
Use this to show your support on social media!
The paid leave provision in the #BuildBackBetter Act from @WaysMeansCmte builds a #PaidLeave plan that is
👉🏾Inclusive

2. The threat to women’s bodily autonomy hasn’t been more dire since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973.
In a nutshell: It is now clear that we can’t rely on the Supreme Court to uphold decades of precedent guaranteeing women’s constitutional right to privacy.
Take action: Next Monday the House of Representatives will hold a floor vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act. Call, email, and tweet at your representative and tell them they must vote YES on WHPA!
1. States are passing laws that disenfranchise black communities – making it more difficult to vote and access reproductive health care.
In a nutshell: Black women leaders and allies are coming together for a day of action to urge congress to pass the For The People Act, The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and to protect reproductive rights for all women and girls.
Take action: On Wednesday, September 15th, speak out in Washington, DC in front of the Supreme Court at 9:30 am ET or stand in solidarity for a national call-in day by calling your U. S. Senators at 202-224-3121 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET to tell them to pass federal voting rights reform and to protect women's reproductive rights.
