321ACTION: Save paid leave in the Build Back Better Plan

Your civic action to-do list for November 1, 2021

Paid Leave, Accommodations for Pregnant Workers, Preventing Gun Violence

Follow JWI to learn more about our misson-based work to confront gender-based violence, empower women with tools to build long-term economic security, and ensure access to reproductive choices.

It would be unconscionable for paid leave to be left out of the Build Back Better (BBB) Plan. Congress is currently debating its inclusion in BBB and we need to make our voices heard NOW to save paid leave. Survivors of domestic violence are among the millions of women working every day to support their families; denying them paid leave forces them to choose between an essential paycheck and taking the time to secure safety for themselves and their families.

Read JWI’s full statement to the White House and Congress, and write your senators to urge them to include robust funding for paid leave in BBB. Join the vigil at Capitol Hill at 11 a.m. ET tomorrow, November 2nd to show your support and hear stories regarding the direct impact of paid leave.

Far too many pregnant workers, especially those in low-wage jobs, are forced out of the workforce due to employers refusing to provide simple accommodations that allow them to have a healthy pregnancy. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) closes the gaps in federal legislation that enables employers to get away with these discriminatory practices.

Join A Better Balance for a National Day of Action and email your senators to encourage them to pass this act now.

Gun violence is a community issue. Approximately 115,551 people are shot each year; a community-driven solution is needed now.

Attend the Brady National Conference, November 4-6, to learn tangible actions you can take to prevent gun violence in your community.
