321ACTION: Devastating spending cuts, 202 mass shootings, #RISEfromTrauma
Ready to make a difference?
Here are three ways to get started:
1. Reject deep spending cuts
Calls by some members of Congress for deep cuts to domestic spending would be devastating to millions of Americans and dangerous to the country's economic stability. These cuts would put food and housing assistance, scientific and medical research, environmental protections, financial aid for higher education, infrastructure investments, humanitarian aid and development, and more – at risk.
We must urge Congress to reject domestic spending cuts and increase funding to a level that reflects the rising costs and need for investments that meet human needs and support our economy.
Ask your senators to reject devastating cuts to domestic spending
2. Horrified, again. We MUST take action against gun violence
So far this year in the U.S. there have been 202 shootings where at least 4 people have died.
The horrific mass shooting at a crowded outlet mall near Dallas, TX over the weekend is the most recent shooting to leave a community and country devastated and in mourning.
We are outraged, again. While the governor of Texas announced he will not sign any new gun violence prevention policies, we must persist in our demands to enact laws that have been proven to prevent and reduce gun violence.
Tell your state elected officials to take action NOW
3. Post about the #RisefromTraumaAct to support children
46% of children have experienced some sort of trauma by the time they reach 18. A new bipartisan bill introduced in Congress last week would help address this trauma, as well as the root causes of violence and addiction, by funding targeted local services, hospital-based interventions, and training programs for mental health clinicians, teachers, and first responders.
The #RISEfromTraumaAct would help mitigate the impact of trauma, preventing community violence, gun violence, and substance-abuse. Thank Senators Durbin (D-IL) and Capito (R-WV) for their advocacy on this issue and post about this vital piece of legislation on social media.
