321ACTION: July 29, 2024

Last week, JWI's Chief Program Officer Deborah Rosenbloom briefed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about JWI's joint initiative with the Seed the Dream Foundation, I Believe Israeli Women. I Believe Israeli Women is dedicated to amplifying the voices of survivors of Hamas's brutal sexual violence on October 7, standing for the victims whose voices were silenced forever, and standing against denialism and disinformation that seeks to erase their suffering. Rosenbloom then met with the families of people still being held hostage by Hamas, sharing her personal connections to Israel, JWI's work to combat gender-based violence and support survivors, and the impact of I Believe Israeli Women's May mission to Israel. Ready to make a difference?

Here are three ways to get started:

1.Educate others about reproductive coercion!

The National Domestic Violence Hotline released a social media toolkit to accompany their report on reproductive coercion. Use the toolkit to raise awareness about this important issue!

2. Tell Congress to pass the Senate Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies bill!

The Senate Appropriations Committee recently passed its Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) spending bill. This bill would restore funding for victim services after last year’s 40% cut to Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) victim service grants and fund Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) programs at their highest ever level. The House bill, in contrast, provides $400 million less for VOCA and $46 million less for VAWA and defunds VAWA grant programs for LGBTQ people, underserved communities, culturally specific organizations, direct financial assistance, and restorative practices.

Click here to email your members of Congress to urge them to adopt the Senate CJS bill in a final spending package. Then click here to Tweet your thanks to the Senate Appropriations Committee for their support.

3. Apply to be a Planned Parenthood Developing Leader!

Planned Parenthood is accepting applications for its Developing Leaders Program through August 25. If you are a young professional over the age of 25 with a passion for reproductive health and freedom, you can learn more about the program and apply here
