In honor of Queen Esther and Queen Vashti's legacies and in recognition of the challenges faced by survivors of domestic violence, JWI is hosting a special post-Purim event to package essential period supplies for centers supporting those affected by domestic violence.
This act of kindness not only embodies the spirit of giving during Purim but also serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to support and uplift those in need so we can live in a world free of violence and inequity, where all women and girls thrive.
The supplies will be donated to The Jewish Board's Lev Initiative.
More About Purim & JWI
Purim is celebrated as a festive holiday, and it also reminds us of the prevalence of sexual violence and the importance of supporting survivors. This year, JWI specifically remembers the bravery and resilience of Queen Esther and Queen Vashti, who both stood against injustice in their own ways.
We look to Queen Esther, who, through her courage, saved her people from harm, while Queen Vashti refused to submit to King Ahasuerus' demands by asserting her autonomy and dignity. JWI advocates for legislation that protects abuse survivors, offers healthy relationship training, and trains and supports advocates working with survivors.
