“JWI strongly condemns the act of violence and murders of Black Americans and calls on people of all races and religions to stand together to confront and change systemic violence and racism. As anti-violence advocates, we cannot remain silent. As Jewish women, guided by our teachings and traditions, we must not sit idly by. As mothers, we will not accept a world in which parents must have a “talk” with their children on how to survive as a person of color. We pledge to lift the voices and work of people of color to actively seek ways to undo the systems that drive inequality in access to safety, education, opportunity, and justice.” - Meredith Jacobs, JWI CEO.
One small and initial step we can take in this fight is to provide a space for us to discuss how we can look inward, acknowledge and address our biases, which is why this month the Young Women’s Leadership Network will be hosting our virtual book club on White Fragility. The hard copy of this book is on backorder everywhere, so please read the electronic version if possible. Please consider supporting any of these Black-owned bookstores which offer online ordering, shipping, and in-store pickup in a number of states. If you can’t get the book through those stores, here's the link to the Kindle book (which can be read on your computer or tablet) through Amazon Smile and the link to Ebay listings for the PDF version of the book.
Donations from this event will go towards supporting JWI’s partnership with Repair the World and Jews of Color. We do not want cost to be prohibitive of anyone joining the event, so please reach out to Rachel ([email protected]) if you need financial assistance in purchasing your copy of the book. Additionally if you’d like to volunteer to sponsor someone else’s purchase of the book, please reach out to Rachel.
