Webinar Overview
Join this presentation to learn from Annie Seifullah, a nationally recognized expert on tech abuse (and a survivor herself). Attendees will learn the definition of tech abuse and tools for identifying and explaining tech abuse through the lens of power and control. Attendees will walk away with practical tools and strategies for helping survivors escape safely and get justice within the systems that so often ignore this insidious form of intimate partner violence.
Speaker Bios:
Annie Seifullah, Esq. is an associate at C.A. Goldberg, PLLC, a woman-owned, woman-led law firm in Brooklyn that specializes in representing survivors of violence, both online and off. Annie is the co-chair of the New York Cyber Abuse Task Force, a coalition of agencies, attorneys, and advocates working to end technology-facilitated abuse. Annie specializes in representing survivors of violence looking to recover money damages from the abuser/s who harmed them -- or the organizations (schools, corporations, churches) that aided or enabled the abuse that they suffered. Annie also represents survivors of intimate partner violence who are seeking orders of protection through New York Family Court.
Annie joined C. A. Goldberg after graduating from , where she now teaches Civil Procedure on an adjunct basis. Annie’s background as a teacher and a principal in NYC public schools positioned her to hit the ground running once she started practicing law. In her first year of practice, Annie represented Michelle Hadley in the infamous case against the City of Anaheim, which resulted in a $1.795M settlement for her beloved client, who was framed and jailed on falsified digital evidence. Annie also represented former Congresswoman Katie Hill after Hill alleged that her intimate images were leaked to the media and her political opponents by her abusive ex-husband.
Annie’s ability to deeply connect to her clients and fiercely advocate for them is an outcome of being a survivor of intimate partner violence and image based sexual abuse (formerly known as “revenge porn”). Relying upon her own experiences and advocacy work, Annie authored the book Scarlet Hashtag: Transform Your Public Shame into Your Power to help others who are working to overcome the same.
Annie received her Bachelor of Arts from University of Utah in 2001, an M.A. in Secondary English Education from CUNY City College of New York in 2005, and a Juris Doctor from CUNY School of Law in 2018. She lives in Long Island City, Queens with her partner Sam Goldsmith and her son, Khalil, who is the center of her world.
