Advocacy most commonly involves direct communication with elected officials, whether through calls, in-person meetings, or the ballot box, however advocacy can also take the form of written comments to federal agencies that are led by presidential appointees. While often dismissed, participating in the notice and comment period for rulemaking, is integral since it is the only direct way to impact agency regulations and laws.
