San Diego YWIN Board Members

Jennifer Cohen, Financial Literacy Chair

Jennifer Cohen grew up in the Chicago suburbs and graduated from the University of Arizona with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology. Jennifer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and is an accomplished scientific expert in pharmaceutical toxicology. Jennifer has served on the Executive Councils of non-profit scientific societies in roles of Treasurer (managing endowment funds) and Councilor (managing communication newsletters, scientific program content, annual meetings, member awards, etc). Jennifer enjoys yoga, gardening, cooking, reading, and being outdoors. Jennifer is passionate about investment strategy and is looking forward to serving as Financial Literacy Chair of the JWI Board.

Kelilah Federman, President

Kelilah Federman was born and raised in San Diego. She is an environmental and land use attorney at Adams Broadwell Joseph & Cardozo in San Francisco. Kelilah’s work focuses on promoting land use decisions that protect clean air and clean water and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Her work also helps prevent the destruction of endangered species and the habitats on which they depend. She studied political science at San Diego State University and received her JD and environmental law certificate from UC Hastings College of the Law. Kelilah was involved with JWI in San Francisco before moving to San Diego. She was raised in an orthodox Jewish home and came to understand the value of philanthropy and tzedakah as an integral part of her Jewish identity. In her free time, she enjoys beach yoga, paddleboarding, scuba diving, and making ceramics.

Ariel Haus, Vice President of Programing

Ariel Haus was born and raised in Riverside, CA and has been in San Diego, CA for 3 years. Ariel attended UC Santa Barbara, where she majored in Art History and was on the Santa Barbara Hillel student board for 3 years. Jobs since college have included working for Inland and Desert Hillel and being a Judaica and Hebrew School Teacher. She is currently a Senior Legal Administrative Assistant in San Diego. Ariel is excited to be on the newly formed JWI board and cannot wait to have an impact on the San Diego Jewish community. In her free time, Ariel likes to watch Judge Judy, go to the zoo, and eat poki! Ask her for the best poki place in San Diego!

Wendy Magid, Advocacy Chair

Wendy Magid, a SoCal native is an environmental justice and human rights activist. She graduated from George Mason University in 2019 with a degree in Environmental Conflict and a minor in Sustainability. Wendy currently runs Good360's sustainability operations. She also has her own sustainable lifestyle coaching business that she runs on the side of her work at Good360 and the activism she leads. She believes that health and happiness for people and the planet are key and by working as Advocacy Chair for JWIN San Diego, she will be able to connect the jewish community to advocacy and sustainability!

Alex Tallakson, Communications Chair

Alex Tallakson was born and raised in Colorado and graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She recently moved to San Diego after a few years working at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Alex is currently studying for her Master's of Public Health at the University of California, San Diego. After being very involved with Jewish organizations in college, she is excited to join the JWI board. Outside of work and school, Alex enjoys hiking, running, cooking, and is constantly searching for the best bagel in San Diego.

Miranda Koster, Engagement Chair

Miranda Koster was born and raised in Orange County, California. She currently works as a Philanthropy Specialist at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Jacob’s Family Campus in La Jolla, CA. Miranda studied International Security and Conflict Resolution specializing in the Environment and Security at San Diego State University. She is thrilled to be involved with JWI as this is her first year of involvement and holding a seat on the San Diego YWIN board. Miranda was raised in an reform Jewish home and came to understand the value of philanthropy and tikun olam as a vital part of her Jewish and human identity. Some of Miranda’s hobbies include watching the sunset at the beach, throwing pottery, and spending time with friends and family.
