321ACTION: Paycheck Fairness, Congress + NRA, and Sexual Assaults on Female Farm Workers

Ready to make a difference?

Here are three ways to get started:

1. Still waiting on the Paycheck Fairness Act

Last week marked Black Women’s Equal Pay Day — the day when Black women’s salaries equaled what white men earned in 2022. With a pay gap of $0.64, it takes Black women an extra six months to earn what they would have if they were white men. Black women’s contributions to the work force are often undervalued, underpaid, and overlooked. Paycheck Fairness Act would require employers to compensate all workers fairly without regard to sex, and provide remedies for workers to hold employers accountable.

The PFA has been introduced into Congress since 1997. It should not take 26 years to get it enacted into law.  Ask your representative to sign on to the House Bill (H.R. 17) and your senators to support S. 728.

2. Ties between the NRA and Congress

Aside from the Safer Communities Act of 2022, Congress has been noticeably reluctant to pass any legislation that seriously addresses guns. Read this article to learn what we suspected – the ties between the NRA and members of Congress are deep and real and have been for years.

3. Sexual Assault and Female Farm Workers

The fresh fruits and vegetables of summer come at a great cost to the workers harvesting this bounty - about 80% of female farm workers experience sexual violence, with undocumented immigrant women experiencing even higher rates. Child labor is legal and female workers under the age of 14 are especially vulnerable to sexual violence.

Call your representative and tell them to support the Bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2023 and H.R. 4046 Children’s Act for Responsible Employment and Farm Safety (CARE) Act, and read this article to learn more.
